The CO2 emission regulation of vehicle fleets as well as the call for less energy consumption are strong drivers for lightweight construction. The resin transfer moulding consisting of several process stages offers a great potential for the series production of fiber reinforced plastics. Therefore, the research at the Institute of Production Science (wbk) is focused on automating the sub-process chain of preforming. Within this sub-process chain, the forming of flat, textile materials into complex three-dimensional fiber structures takes place. Here, the development of an intelligent and resource-efficient gripping system represents a key technology for the automated handling of flexible textile semi-finished parts that are to be processed.
